Life after life: medical criteria of “death”, its legal definition in the Philippines, related issues and Biblical perspectives

Note: I have posted this article twice before (the first sometime 2006 and the second time around April this year) in my Salt and Light blog. I am reprinting it again in view of the All Saints Day celebration today and the Glorietta 2 incident two weeks ago that has claimed eleven lives and wounded several dozens of people.

The last few days, television news programs have brought to us the heart-rending stories, among others, of friends who were just meeting for a mini-reunion and which turned out to be their last, of hardworking fathers, loving daughters, etc. innocent victims of either a deliberate bombing or an industrial accident. Several days ago, the Philippine Daily Inquirer published the touching and tragic story (entitled "Losing Leslie") of Carlo Cruz whose wife died in the Glorietta 2 incident. For the complete article on the various criteria of "death", its legal definition in the Philippines, related issues like euthanasia, living wills, and Biblical perspectives, please surf to http://www.-salt-and-light-.blogspot.com/.
